This is more of a rant... Too many people are telling people they are illiterate. So... this is my opinion. Post your opinion of 'Literate' here. And I don't want a dictionary.com definition... I want YOUR opinion.
To me, being literate is creativity. Creativity is more important then the length of your reply. But if you are truly creative, then your post will be long because of your imagination.
Being literate is actually capitalizing your letters... I see people talking without capitalizing their 'I's or proper nouns.
Being literate is loving to role play, and not finding it a chore to log on and reply to your role play..
Most people think they are literate because they have a character intro like so. "Danielle slowly woke and pushed her blond hair out of her hazel eyes as she yawns and applied her make up. Black lipstick, black eyeliner, and black eyeshadow. She went back to her room and pulled on a pair of black, ripped jeans, and a crop-top black shirt. Danielle hated her name. She hated her parents, as well. She is the submissive type. She is sixteen years old. She exited her large mansion and went to her Ferrari to go to high-school. All the boys liked her. Being emo and goth, everyone should like her." That isn't being literate. That's being a Mary-Sue owner. This person might be literate if they actually thought of a unique character, and didn't make the person emo/goth/perfect/submissive.
A literate person does not reply with a power-playing move. Meaning someone... for example... "Person A punched Person B in the nose. Person B's nose began to bleed, and Person A watched as he fell to the ground." That being the power-playing person's post. Same works for someone pinning a character down.
Playing gifted is difficult. Especially with someone who has telepathy, or mind powers. If you can write a decent post and you have one of these characters, and without power-playing, you're good.
You are illiterate if you crash an illiterate board. How do you think people get better at role playing? And don't tell them they're illiterate... they probably know it. That's just plain mean.
You're silly if you don't know whether to use 'one' or 'won,' 'there,' 'their,' or 'they're,' 'two,' 'to,' or 'too.' That might be a problem with what grade they're in, the level of interest they take in role-playing, or if they're just not smart enough to know.
And that's... it. I'll probably think of more stuff... so I'll probably edit this post.
